Nimona (MP3 CD)
This book stands as such an enormous icon in graphic novels. It’s so iconic in its wit and dry humor and really grabs hold of your heart as soon as you open it! Nimona follows a young shapeshifter of the same name, who is chaotic and full of whim and working hard to become an iconic villain. She enlists as a sidekick to Lord Blackheart, and the two are ready to wreak havoc! But the involvement of a hero, Sir Goldenloin, brings their battle to epic proportions while also bringing out unexpected adventures: good-deeds, kindness, and even love! Noelle Stevenson’s illustration style is so fantastic and perfectly matches the wit with which she crafts the story. This is a re-readable delight!

Nimona is an impulsive young shape-shifter with a knack for villainy. Lord Ballister Blackheart is a villain with a vendetta. As sidekick and supervillain, Nimona and Lord Blackheart are about to wreak some serious havoc. Their mission: prove to the kingdom that Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and his buddies at the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics aren't the heroes everyone thinks they are.
But as small acts of mischief escalate into a vicious battle, Lord Blackheart realizes that Nimona's powers are as murky and mysterious as her past. And her unpredictable wild side might be more dangerous than he is willing to admit.
What a joyful read! While tackling very real topics, such as social expectations of people's bodies, cultural identity, and challenging family dynamics, "Chunky" uses a delightful play-by-play sports casting style throughout the book that truly engages the reader in Yehudi Mercado's journey. Yehudi and his imaginary mascot Chunky take the reader through the meandering explorations of growing up, from the things you choose to explore yourself to the things others force you to explore, but recognizing your truth nonetheless.
