A Guinea Pig Night Before Christmas (Guinea Pig Classics) (Hardcover)
The latest heart-warming book in the Guinea Pig Classics series.
''Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse'
But sit down by the fire with some chocolates to hand,
And you'll be welcomed into a magical land.
There is snow and some moonlight; St Nick in his sleigh;
There are reindeer and elves, and guinea pigs! Hooray!
This classic Christmas poem, now told by guinea pigs,
Will surely delight all with their costumes and wigs.
For nothing's more charming than a pig in a hat,
Especially a Christmas one, that's just a fact.
About the Author
Clement Clarke Moore was a scholar of ancient languages, but is remembered to this day for his memorable poem 'The Night Before Christmas', which started appeared anonymously in newspapers in the 1820s. His character of St Nicholas strongly influenced the character of Santa Claus that we know today, and reading aloud the poem remains a favourite Christmas tradition.
Tess Newall is a set designer who specialises in fashion shoots and decorative painting. She carefully stitched and painted each tiny detail in A Guinea Pig Night Before Christmas, creating a small but perfectly formed vision of Christmas Eve in a guinea pigs's home.
"A heartwarming celebration of both the holiday season and these beloved furry mammals, A Guinea Pig Night Before Christmas is pure joy to page through and makes an excellent giftbook or stocking stuffer. Highly recommended!" - Midwest Book Review
"The story is about these cute, fat guinea pigs and how excited they are for Christmas to come . . . This book definitely makes you want a cute guinea pig as a pet and to dress them up in cute little clothes. I recommend this book to kids who like cute little animals and Christmas stories." - City Book Review
"Like the other books in this series, Tess Newall takes such care with the backgrounds and design. There are knitted stockings – even for the mouse!, a tiny lampshade on the lamp at Pa’s bedside, shingles on the rooftop . . . I died." - Pretty Good Gatsby
"If they could get War and Peace down to this length, it would be a service to mankind." - Salman Rushdie
"These guinea pigs really know how to act." - The Times
"We defy you not to be won over by it." - Saga
"Really fun." - Daily Mail
This young adult historical fiction packs an absolutely powerful punch and it absolutely blew me away. It is ENORMOUSLY FUN to read, and it’s rich with juicy historical goodness, from the locations to the language used to the many chaotic adventures our characters get wrapped up in. The story introduces Monty, a young British lord being groomed to grow up as a gentleman, but to absolutely no avail. Before he takes over his family’s estate (much to his father’s chagrin), Monty embarks on a Grand Tour of Europe with his best friend (whom he’s disastrously in love with), and his sister, but they end up on a whirlwind manhunt across Europe that leaves behind everything they knew before! Full of mayhem and mystery and written with such wit, this book is also balanced with commentary about many historical prejudices involving race, sexuality, and physical ability that persisted in history.
Fall in love with their story, and be sure not to miss the sequel, Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy!
