Persuasion follows the story of Anne Elliott, who as a teenager was engaged to a seemingly ideal man, Frederick Wentworth. But after being persuaded by her friend Lady Russell that he is too poor to be a suitable match, Anne ends their engagement. When they are reacquainted eight years later, their circumstances are transformed: Frederick is returning triumphantly from the Napoleonic War, while Anne's fortunes are floundering. Will their past regrets prevent them from finding future happiness?

About the Author

Jane Austen (1775-1817) was an English novelist whose works are among the most popular novels ever written. Her keen eye for social tension, and ear for taut, witty dialogue have delighted readers for centuries, while her novels have maintained historical importance through their analysis of the dependence of women on marriage to gain social standing and security. She has been widely adapted for both stage and screen, and continues to be among the most widely-read of late-18th-/early 19th-century writers.

Henry Hitchings was born in 1974. He is the author of The Secret Life of Words, Who's Afraid of Jane Austen?, and Defining the World. He has contributed to many newspapers and magazines and is the theater critic for the London Evening Standard.

An incredible debut, Connor Sullivan’s geo-political thriller, Sleeping Bear, is so propulsive, you’ll forget that you need to go to work the next day, and just read on with each, more gripping page! My favorite combination – wilderness, survival and political intrigue collide with star turns by tech gadgets, Russian scientists & Putin himself, but with strong character development of the flawed, but resourceful American Gale family. We first meet grieving youngest sister, Cassie Gale, as she ventures out solo in the Yukon wilderness trying to run from past demons. But since this is a first rate thriller, those demons and plenty more within her complicated family, propel this action-packed, spy-laced adventure into glorious view. Pick this up and call in to work! - Reviewed by Maureen
