Breath . . . it inspires so many silly sayings. Let me catch my breath. You take my breath away. I need a breath of fresh air. And how did little white flowers come to be known as Baby’s Breath? Breath is a mystery in more ways than one. And this story is all about breath: losing it, trying to find it, even trying to buy it.In the imagination of Paul Briggs, a boy’s breath becomes personified, and it zooms away through farm, forest, and sea, returning only when the boy least expects it.
If you are not able to make it to the event but would like a book signed please, order below at least 24 hours before the event and put in the order comments if you would like Paul to personalize with a name. You can also call us at (818) 248-9668.
About the author: Paul Briggs has worked in the animation industry for twenty years and was fortunate to be the head of story on Disney's Frozen and Big Hero 6, both of which received an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film. However, he's most proud of his family: his wife, Christin, and their two sons, Luke and Leo. When he's not working, Paul and his family can be found wandering the woods of California, looking for forest zombies to defeat, or engaging in epic dance battles--where they have to stop and catch their breaths.
This book is SO amazing! A beautifully written scientific and personal memoir that is informative, touching, heart-breaking, and inspiring. Jahren’s descriptions of her life and scientific research into the intricacies of the plant world are as poetic and poignant as it gets. The story weaves through her early upbringing in Minnesota, her education, starting her lab with her lovable and eccentric lab partner Bill. It then follows her finding love, motherhood, and her ground-breaking geobiology research. Reading this is like taking a walk through the forest with a friend. Every word is filled with authenticity and a fervent passion for science and this book makes me proud to be studying to become a scientist. It’s a must read for those interested in the natural world or any human who has ever had feelings. - Linnea
