This year Once Upon a Time is offering two wines from the opposite sides of France. Bordeaux on the chillier Atlantic coast, and Provence on the warmer Mediterranean. Though not at the water’s edge, these appellations (designated wine regions) are heavily influenced by their distinctive soils, sun, water, and centuries of knowledge. Both wines come from relatively new wineries.
The 2019 Chateau Godard Francs Cotes de Bordeaux comes from an appellation right next to the Grand Cru appellation of St. Emilion, one of the pinnacles of French Bordeaux. Think of living in Beverly Hills but below Wilshire. Organically farmed Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec grapes from older vines are masterfully blended into a really tasty wine that will knock your socks off!
The Domaine Gavoty - Recital Cotes de Provence Rose 2022 is the perfect way to pretend that winter will never come. This organically grown blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan is not your typical fruity rose. It has freshness and fruit with real complexity. Kind of like great allegories, which abound at Once Upon a Time!
In order to participate in the Montrose Wine Walk, you must purchase a ticket. The bookstore will remain open to the public.
“Great wines are like great books.
Once you take your first ‘sip,’ they’re hard to put down”
